Pearl are not bad drums, I have heard some great sounding kits. Better then Tama IMO.

I would hope that the brand name they slap on the front wouldn't have anything to do with play-a-bility. I mean, you can tune any high-end drums to sound like anything, no matter what their make. I think cymbals are the things that differ more.

    Sad to hear about Smitty.

I saw a clip of Smitty playing Buzin's at their site last year. Is that who he is endorsing? Those are Pearls he is using on the Tonight Show still.

Rumor has it, the Buzins may be dead. Icky took Yossi's name off the cymbals, or so I've been told. I'm personally not a big Drum Connection fan. Additionally, contrary to Yossi's version, the drums were just Kellers, and nothing particular. He says the shells were from a Canadian source, but, I saw him, with my own eyes, picking shells at Andersons.

It happens all the time, drummers switching over to another company for various reasons - look at Weckl and Peart for example... Sabian was MUCH more accomodating to them, and made their visions come true. Minnemann too recently switched cymbal companies (Meinl to Zildjian)... but it's always more interesting when it's on bad terms! I wonder what Smitty's letter said to Pearl, apperantly it was pretty bad.

Another classic example is matricks leaving Sabian B8's for Zildjian Schimitars or whatever the hell they are called.

Yeah, me and Sabian had a big falling out over the fact that i couldn't get a 40" B8-Pro China in purple... that was in my BIG Purple Rain phase and i wanted it mounted directly ABOVE my head... you know, so i could just reach up and smack it.

Anyways, to my dismay and a 'mystery' fire at the Sabian plant, i left. Actually, the 'mystery' fire was AFTER i left... but we will leave it at that.

So, now i am happy with my Schmemittors, but have now traded in my purple china fantasy for a vibrating splash cymbal.
